The Mortgage Loan Officer will report to the VP of Real Estate Lending and will need to travel to our Tyler location on South Broadway for training and meetings during the first month of employment, with paid mileage during training.
Job Summary:
This Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) is responsible for market development and growing the Telco Plus Credit Union real estate business in Gregg County, Harrison County and Rusk County Texas (and to a lesser extent outlying areas). The MLO is responsible for guiding potential and existing members through the mortgage application process, from initial consultation to closing. This role involves evaluating borrowers' financial situations, recommending suitable loan products, and providing expert advice on mortgage options and regulations. The Loan Officer will maintain strong member relationships, collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely processing, and actively seek new business, whether brokered or funded directly by Telco Plus. By leveraging industry knowledge and a customer-focused approach, the Mortgage Loan Officer will play a crucial role in helping potential and existing members achieve their homeownership goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Meet with potential and existing members to assess their mortgage needs and financial situations and deliver exceptional service to members, ensuring a positive experience throughout the mortgage process.
· Guide members through the mortgage application process, helping them complete forms and gather necessary documentation.
· Analyze financial information, including credit history and income, to determine eligibility for mortgage products.
· Provide expert advice on various mortgage options, recommending products that best suit clients' financial goals.
· Work closely with loan processors, underwriters, and other team members to ensure timely and efficient processing of loan applications.
· Stay informed about mortgage regulations, interest rates, and local real estate markets to provide informed guidance to members and ensure all applications comply with legal requirements and company policies.
· Maintain regular communication with clients throughout the application process, providing updates and addressing any questions or concerns.
· Identify and resolve issues or discrepancies in loan applications promptly to facilitate a smooth transaction.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, real estate agents, and other referral sources to generate new business, promote mortgage services, and build a referral network.
· Actively seek new business opportunities through networking, marketing, and referrals to grow the Credit Union’s market share in the assigned market area.
· Ensure that all documentation is accurate, complete, and organized, maintaining compliance with internal policies.
· Meet sales target with ability to close a minimum of 500k per month.
· Must be willing to attend LAAR (Longview Area Association of Realtors) and Greater Tyler Association of Realtors GTAR events.
Skills and Qualifications
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively explain mortgage products and processes to clients.
· A commitment to providing outstanding service, ensuring members feel valued and supported throughout the mortgage process.
· Solid understanding of mortgage products, lending regulations, and the real estate market, including current interest rates and trends.
· Knowledge of agency, non-agency, FHA, VA, USDA, Bridge Loan, One-time close construction loan, land loans and home equity lending guidelines.
· Ability to assess financial information, evaluate credit histories, and make informed decisions on mortgage applications.
· Proven ability to identify and pursue business development opportunities, building a robust referral network and expanding the mortgage portfolio.
· Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and compliance.
· Commitment to handling sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality.
· Willingness to stay informed about industry changes and adapt to new processes and regulations.
· Familiarity with loan origination software and other relevant financial tools, as well as proficiency in customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
· Ability to work effectively with loan processors, underwriters, and other team members to ensure smooth application processing.
Preferred Qualifications
· Previous experience in mortgage lending, banking, or financial services, with demonstrated success in customer service roles.
· Valid mortgage loan originator license (NMLS) as required by state regulations.
· Strong understanding of financial principles, credit analysis, and risk assessment.
· Established relationships with local realtors, builders, and developers, or proven ability to build these connections.
Compensation and Position Classification for Mortgage Loan Officer:
Pay Rate: $20.00 - $25.00/hr DOE, Non-Exempt. Paid biweekly. Eligible for significant monthly incentives (not capped) which vary based on production results and are paid in arrears.
