Job Summary
Perform work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of an establishment in repair. Duties may involve pipe fitting; boiler making; insulating; welding; machining; carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment; and repairing buildings, floors, or stairs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices. 10%
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate. 10%
- Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions. 10%
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary. 10%
- Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment. 10%
- Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists. 10%
- Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery. 10%
- Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges. 10%
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment. 10%
- Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work. 5%
- Other duties as assigned by Process Excellence Manager 5%
Education and Experience Profile
High school diploma or GED certificate.
APICS certification desired.

- Repairing — Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
- Equipment Maintenance — Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Troubleshooting — Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
- Equipment Selection — Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Monitoring — Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Operation Monitoring — Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Quality Control Analysis — Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
- Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Public Safety and Security — Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
