Summary: Responsible for minimizing risk on-course for both staff and participants, acting as the primary responder in incident response, and performing the required facilitation tasks for the systems and elements on the course by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Daily opening and closing procedures of the zip-line course.
  • Conduct inspections of all course components and gear.
  • Fit harnesses, helmets, gloves and brake pads correctly and supervise the use of all safety equipment.
  • Conduct pre-tour safety orientation for each group.
  • Demonstrate proper riding position.
  • Observes students during practice to detect and correct mistakes.
  • Perform course retrievals and rescues.
  • Assure the safety and wellbeing of each guest throughout the tour.
  • Engage each and every guest to ensure a memorable experience.
  • Identify and assist with course maintenance efforts.
  • Follow all policies and procedures for safety, personal appearance and promote respect for our mountain environment.
  • Attend appropriate daily guide line-ups and morning meetings.
  • Responsible for understanding, checking, and managing personal schedule on a daily basis.
  • Monitor facilities, equipment and environment to provide safe, efficient operations.
  • Responds to incidents and accidents professionally and quickly.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, rules, and regulations.
  • Participate in all necessary training clinics and events to maintain current and up to industry best practices.
  • Seeks to upgrade teaching and sliding ability to better serve the guests and obtain a better understanding of the instructors job
  • Provide a guest experience that exceeds the guest’s expectations.
  • Models the company goals and expectations.
  • Supports Telluride Ski & Golf sustainability and safety initiatives.
  • Adheres to Telluride Ski & Golf policies and procedures.

Age And/or Experience

Must be 18 years of age or older and prior experience with outdoor recreation, athletics, educational roles, and zip lining/rock climbing a plus.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and maintain records of trainings attended, operating hours and inspection hours; Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Communication Skills

  • Communicate in a clear and understandable fashion with participants and other staff members.
  • Able to effectively communicate in an appropriate manner in the programming environment with or without accommodation.
  • Effectively communicate with participants based on their personality type, especially during sensitive, interpersonal contacts.
  • It is recommended that Staff and/or Operators maintain records of trainings attended, operating hours and inspection hours.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability And Decision Making

  • Comprehend and implement oral and written instructions.
  • Apply reasoning skills when confronted with circumstances requiring a discretionary decision.
  • Establish priorities and construct further plans after an initial assessment.
  • Formulate and implement an appropriate course of action in a given situation for which no specific rule or procedure has been established.
  • Apply theory-based instruction or training to actual incidents/situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have access to the internet and the ability to login in to appropriate websites to check schedules. Individual should also have the ability to use Risk Management software for daily and periodic course and equipment inspections and reporting.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Possess Children and Adult First Aid and CPR Certification before first day of work.

Bonsai Level 1/2 certification preferred. Prerequisites for each certification are as follows:

  • The prerequisites to being certified / qualified by Bonsai as a Level 1 course practitioner include:
    • Must be 18 years or older
    • Must meet participant requirements for the course
    • Attend training hours
    • Successfully complete testing per certification requirements
    • (Accommodations available to meet ADA requirements)

  • The prerequisites to being certified / qualified by Bonsai as a Level 2 course practitioner include:
    • Meet the prerequisites for Level 1 course practitioner
    • Have 200 hours of documented on-course facilitation
    • Successfully complete testing or training
Other Skills And Abilities

  • Must successfully complete and pass the Telluride Canopy Tour zip-line training course by Bonsai Design.
  • Guest Service driven.
  • Good communication skills and professional presentation.
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
  • Must have great attention to detail to ensure guest safety and overall enjoyable experience.
  • Honest, respectful and trustworthy.
  • Flexible.
  • Works well in a fast paced environment.

Minimum Pay Rate (actual may be adjusted based on experience/certification): $20/hr
