What are the responsibilities and job description for the Children's Ski Instructor position at Telluride Ski & Golf?
This is an Alpine Ski Instructor role and NOT a snowboard instructor position.
Do you have a passion for working with children AND a passion for skiing? As a ski instructor working in our Children’s Group Lesson Program you’ll get the best of both worlds. This is a great opportunity to work with Telluride’s youngest guests ranging in age from 3 to 14! You will have the ability to create amazing experiences and build lasting relationships with guests that come back year after year. Based on experience and skier level, you will have the opportunity to teach kids of all ages and ability level. In addition to being assigned group lessons, you can expect to work as part of our Special Programs team (Comets, Telluride Ski PE, Mountain School, and the Telluride Development Team) teaching local school kids between the ages of 3 and 16 over a 5-7 week period.
As a ski instructor with the Telluride Ski and Ride School, you can expect to also be asked to teach adult lessons (group or private) as the business requires.
Children make up roughly 75% of all Telluride Ski and Snowboard School guests. Knowing this, we are looking for the best of the best to provide exceptional experiences for this critical group of guests.
A Typical Day As a Children’s Instructor Includes
Must attend Telluride Ski & Snowboard School new hire instructor training.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability: to write routine reports. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Minimum Pay Rate (actual may be adjusted based on experience/certification): $21/hr-$38/hr

A Typical Day As a Children’s Instructor Includes
- Attend the Daily Morning Meeting with your supervisors and fellow instructors.
- Help check children in for the day and interact with parents about expectations, any special needs, and how the day will flow for the children.
- Work with other instructors and the supervisors to ensure children are in the appropriate class and, whenever possible, that the children you worked with the prior day are with you again.
- Developing a plan for the day addressing which skills will be taught, what terrain will be used, and desired outcomes.
- Organize your group of children, including helping with bathroom breaks, snacks, sunscreen and anything else that sets the children up in your class for a successful lesson.
- Managing a safe environment - keep yourself, your students, and the guests around you safe and healthy.
- On occasion, assist children with the equipment rental process
- Helping to setup check-in yards and tear down at the end of the day.
- Completing a report card for each of the children in your class and providing feedback to all students.
- Talking to parents at the end of the lesson about their child’s day and what they’ll be working on in their next lesson.
- Discuss with other instructors and supervisors regarding how the day went and what the plan is for tomorrow.
- It is required that applicants for this position have prior experience working with children.
- No prior ski certification or experience is required however, pay will vary based on those qualifications. First year instructors can expect that 80% of their assignments will be with guests in the 3-6 year age range.
