Temple Health seeks qualified applicants and candidate nominations for the Surgical Director of Lung Transplantation role within Temple’s Department of Surgery. The Surgical Director coordinates and directs the lung transplant surgical services for Temple University Hospital (TUH). This includes maintaining UNOS and CMS certification for both transplant programs and, in collaboration with the Section Chief, developing strategies to increase the volume of procedures performed while focusing on improving early and long-term outcomes and increasing lung transplant volume.  The ideal candidate will immediately contribute to clinical care, education, and research. Candidates will be committed to teaching in a center committed to excellence and safety and an interest or track record in clinical or basic research. The new faculty member benefits from the collaboration and mentorship of the program's experienced and accomplished faculty. 

 

The Surgical Director will provide in-patient and out-patient pre-transplant evaluation, expertise in multi-disciplinary lung transplant selection committees, donor screening and selection, procurement surgery, recipient surgery, and preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative management of lung transplantation. Additional clinical responsibilities include surgery for lung failure, including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), tracheostomy, bronchoscopy, and cardiac and/or thoracic surgical procedures, depending on the candidate’s expertise. The successful candidate will work in a uniquely supportive practice environment emphasizing quality patient care, research, education, mentorship, individual career development, and collegiality among faculty members.   

 

Candidates must possess an M.D. or D.O. with Board Certification/Eligibility by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or foreign equivalent; eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required. Preference will be given to candidates trained in an ACGME-accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship program. The appointment will be commensurate with experience, training, and teaching activities. Lastly, applicants will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, and a solid commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
