We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Principal Scientist to join our team. The Principal Scientist will spearhead early-stage assay and device technology feasibility initiatives efforts and drive early development to enable assets more efficiently in Tempus's product portfolio and research offerings. This role will focus on front-end technical evaluations and development, emphasizing the exploration and assessment of emerging molecular chemistries and applications as well as a broad range of instrumentation and detection platforms. Additionally, this role will interface with bioinformatics and data teams to build workflows that aid in the development of AI applications and enable discoveries from complex data sets, including medical data, genomic data, metadata, population data, and multiomic data.
Key Responsibilities:
The Principal Scientist will be a high-level independent contributor with extensive experience in NGS and other molecular techniques and platforms. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be able to contribute meaningfully to multiomic technology evaluations in areas such as proteomics, metabolomics, imaging, instrumentation, and other life science-based testing and processing technologies. The Principle Scientist will also support bespoke research contracts with Pharma and Biotech customers/collaborators.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field with 8 years of experience in a relevant scientific role.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and execute complex experiments.
- Extensive expertise in NGS-related technologies and applications, including DNA/RNA library preparation and NGS platform knowledge.
- Direct experience with or working knowledge of several areas of multiomics, proteomics, metabolomics, imaging, instrumentation, and other life science-based technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to enable definitive feasibility outcomes relative to clearly defined business use cases.
- Ability to cross-functionally collaborate with a diverse set of scientific and operational teams to enable seamless technology transfers.
- Ability to mentor and advise scientific staff.
