Ten Oaks is a hardwood flooring manufacturer nestled in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of southern Virginia just west of Martinsville and north of the Triad. We are growing and are seeking a Drying Technician to join our drying team
POSITION SUMMARY
Utilize on the job training to ensure that lumber drying operations meet precise moisture specifications. Exhibit a professional work attitude and cooperate with all Supervisors, Managers, coworkers, etc. as required to ensure seamless and efficient production. Work to promote cost control, safety, quality, legal compliance, and achievement of schedules to meet production goals.
HIGH EFFICIENCY TASKS
- Read, learn, and follow all company policies regarding personal performance, safety, and attendance to ensure optimal production performance.
- Master all technical training required for the performance of dry kiln operations to promote company goals.
- Perform well in a team environment and autonomously on projects.
- Support all technical/mechanical/maintenance projects as needed, to ensure optimal operation of dry kilns.
- Implement required training on the job to ensure safety compliance, to ensure quality products, and to meet established standards and expectations.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow instructions of Supervisors, Trainers, & Management.
- Strive daily to improve safety and production procedures and efficiency.
- Work to have excellent attendance, willingness to learn, and a cooperative attitude.
- Perform all production tasks assigned to the best of your ability.
- Stay current on new applicable processes & latest technology.
EXPECTATIONS
- Learn the basic theory of how a Kiln Works,
- Interface with the software to manage Kiln Operation
- Communicate with Yard supervisor to manage planned lumber drying schedule
- Identify abnormalities with Kilns, make basic repairs, and notify maintenance of issues
- Work in hot environments
- Operate handheld power tools
- Lift 30 pounds on a regular basis
- Walk, stand, bend through most of the work day.
- Use various computer programs to manage Kiln operation
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Regular Moisture content checks
- Use Excel to save data, and produce results
- Report Maintenance problems.
- Use Kiln specific software to manage equipment
- Regular boiler maintenance tasks
- Use various saws to prepare samples for testing.
BACKGROUND
High School Diploma / GED or relevant work experience
EXPERIENCE
Minimal required. On the job training provided, but all previous experience is considered.
SKILLS
