Principal Test Engineer

Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Tennant Company, a technology leader in developing sustainable cleaning solution vehicles, is recruiting for a Principal Test Engineer in our Golden Valley facility. We are looking for an engineer who is passionate about product testing and reliability that enjoys working with project teams of talented engineers and is eager to take on big challenges. As part of this team, you will have the ability to contribute significantly to the delivery of our award-winning products around the world!

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with design team to develop electro-mechanical tests for Tennant’s Autonomous programs.
  • Participate in and support cultural adoption of Accelerated Reliability Test Strategies across Tennant Organization through application of principles.
  • Drive development of standardized test and reporting processes ensuring site-to-site repeatability of test processes, results, and reporting formats for the Global Test team.
  • Drive creation and execution of effective test plans that minimize warrantee claims for Tennant Customers and drive improved customer satisfaction.
  • Provide primary technical knowledge in one or more of the following disciplines:
    • Design and execute the most complex testing programs to quantify the performance and reliability of critical and/or new technologies and designs.
    • Accelerated testing of electro-mechanical systems and machines.
    • Test development and troubleshooting of complex electro-mechanical autonomous machines.
  • Author new testing standards in support of the most complex testing needs.
  • Identify test system capability opportunities and drive capital projects to address.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution; MS is desired.
  • At least 8-10 years of professional experience with demonstrated success delivering excellent products on-time.
  • Previous electro-mechanical testing and troubleshooting experience with autonomous systems.
  • CANopen buses and frameworks experience.
  • PLC programing (Allen Bradly and Automation Direct preferred).
  • Hands on experience with benchtop test equipment such as DMMs and oscilloscopes.
  • Vibration test experience in time and frequency domains including modal analysis.
  • Formally trained and experienced in LEAN, Six Sigma (Greenbelt), and/or DFSS.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems specifically Somat Edaq or Echelon.
  • Experience with Strain Gages, Accelerometers, Pressure Transducers, Thermocouples, Flow Sensors and Load Cells.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, innovative and dynamic environment across a global organization.
  • Ability to evaluate the impact of decisions on reliability, warranty, product safety and customer acceptance.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all management levels, technical and non-technical, as well as, with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize of multiple activities in a resource constrained environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including demonstrated success in mentoring technical colleagues.
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Possessing exceptional organization and communication skills including ability to prepare clear and concise technical and status reports.
  • Ability to interpret and create technical standards.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the specification and setup of complex, automated test setups.
  • Fluent in PC applications Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Able to travel (limited) domestically and internationally.

Required Experience

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university
  • MS in Engineering preferred

Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $90,200 - 135,200 Annualized

Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. Tennant Co. reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualifications of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
