What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Maintenance Electrical and Instrumentation Part Time Evening Instructor position at Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Athens?
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Athens is accepting applications for a part-time instructor in its evening Mechanical Maintenance Electrical and Instrumentation (MMEI) program at the McMinn Higher Education Center in Athens. This position works 5 hours per day and 20 hours per week Monday through Thursday from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The MMEI evening instructor is responsible to the Vice President.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in the MMEI/Industrial Maintenance field, preferably within the last five (5) years.
- Must be available for evening program hours of instruction, Monday-Thursday from 3:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary Skilled Trades credential from an accredited institution.
- Three or more years of technical teaching experience.
- Five or more years of industry related experience.
- OSHA 10 certification.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Use program selected curriculum to provide instruction for mechanical maintenance, electrical, hydraulic systems, gearboxes, electrical motors, predictive and preventative maintenance, variable frequency drives, motor control, fluid power, PLC’s, robotics, welding, and machining.
- Provide individualized theory and hands-on instruction to adult and high school students to prepare them for employment in the field.
- Provide students with a thorough understanding of the methods of diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial equipment. Safety and knowledge of tools and materials is of critical importance
- Monitor, grade, and evaluate individual students’ progress.
- Maintain appropriate records and submit timely reports and paperwork.
- Maintain good public relations with business and industry, assist with advisory committee and cooperate with outside agencies.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and stable learning environment that is conducive to all (COE) accreditation requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends and technological advances in the industry.
- Comply with FERPA laws.
- This position may also supervise and follow up on students participating in cooperative education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must possess skills and knowledge to teach theory and application in all phases of the MMEI program.
- Strong hands-on technical background in the field.
- Must be willing to remain current in the instructional field and maintain personal certifications and program accreditation(s).
- Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams) and other basic computer software needed for the teaching profession.
- Must possess the communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher and interact with high school and adults.
- Must show evidence of good character, organizational skills, and mature attitude.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
Physical Qualifications
- Walking, bending, sitting, and squatting to demonstrate skills on campus equipment.
- Able to use body members (arms, hands, fingers), tools, or special devices to work, move, guide, or place objects.
- Communicating for extended periods while lecturing.
- Sitting at a computer for extended periods to enter data.
- Requires concentrated mental and visual attention, i.e., see at close range.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and to move about the teaching area to demonstrate and perform all occupational duties.
Salary Range
This is a part-time, nonexempt position. Hourly wage is $25-$35 per hour depending on qualifications, education, and experience according to salary guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
