What are the responsibilities and job description for the Highway Response Operator position at Tennessee Department of Transportation?
Overview:
TDOT is currently accepting applications for motivated individuals to serve as a TDOT Highway Response Operator 1 in the Chattanooga Area. Highway Response Operators drive the HELP trucks and assist the motoring public with highway emergency response work of routine difficulty.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to freeway incidents and emergencies
- Operates a highway response vehicle in a variety of environmental conditions
- Provides traffic control and/or secures incident scenes
- Follows all applicable laws, agency policies and procedures
- Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from a standard high school (or accredited GED)
- Experience equivalent to three (3) years of full-time experience in one or more of the following: 1) any emergency response work; may include fire suppression, emergency management or communication dispatch; 2) medical services; 3) any protective services work in law enforcement, fire safety inspection, arson investigation, correctional institutions, or security; 4) customer service; 5) highway or bridge maintenance and/or construction; 6) driving motor vehicles for a business establishment or government agency; or 7) automotive or diesel maintenance and/or repair.
Additional Necessary Special Qualifications: you must pass a background check and have a 10-year clean driving record. Must agree to a TBI criminal history records check. Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
