Tennessee Tech University invites applicants for Associate Professor or Professor of Criminology and Chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Political Science. The position will be split 50/50% between academic duties, including teaching three criminology courses annually, and administrative duties. The candidate will be classified as faculty on a nine-month contract with an expectation of summer administrative responsibilities with commensurate renumeration. The chairperson will oversee the Department of Sociology and Political Science, which offers a major in Sociology, with concentrations in Criminology/Criminal Justice and Social Work, and a major in Political Science with a concentration available in Legal Studies. The Criminology/Criminal Justice concentration is the largest within the department.

Essential Functions
The selected candidate will teach three Criminology/Criminal Justice courses annually, which represent a 50% reduction of the typical departmental teaching load. The selected applicant must also carry out chair responsibilities including but not limited to: budget supervision, annual evaluation of faculty, supervision of departmental staff, recruitment and retention of faculty and students, management and improvement of curricula, course scheduling, faculty, staff, and student development, program assessments and reviews, serving on departmental, college, and university level committees, interacting with other departments and university leaders to represent the goals of the department, strategic planning, and providing leadership and vision within the department.
Minimum Qualifications
A PhD is required from an accredited institution. The Candidate should be at the level of Associate or Full Professor in Sociology, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related fields, with experience teaching criminology classes. The selected applicant must be published in the field and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and active learning teaching pedagogies. Available teaching evaluations and/or summaries should be provided to the search committee.
