Our client, a global non-profit scientific society is seeking an experienced API Cloud Engineer to lead and mature our API management practices, supporting integration across our cloud environment. This role is responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing APIs to ensure seamless interoperability and reliability in their cloud-based systems. This position requires strong experience with AWS API tools, including API Gateway and related services. The ideal candidate will be proactive, with a deep understanding of API lifecycle management, cloud integration, and best practices for secure, scalable API solutions.

- API Development and Management: Design, build, and maintain robust APIs, ensuring scalability, performance, and alignment with business requirements. Utilize AWS API tools and MuleSoft for consistent, reliable API integration.
- Maturity of API Practices: Drive the maturity of API practices within the organization, establishing governance, documentation standards, and best practices to streamline API usage and enhance operational efficiency.
- Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices for API management, including authentication, authorization, and data protection. Ensure all API practices align with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
- Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Partner with DevOps, cloud, and development teams to design and implement integrated API solutions that facilitate seamless data flow and application interoperability. Note: The ability to develop APIs in a DevOps environment is crucial.
- Monitoring and Optimization: Develop monitoring solutions for API performance and availability, troubleshooting issues as they arise to minimize disruption and ensure high-quality user experiences.
- Candidates are required to be legally authorized to work in the United States without a sponsoring employer indefinitely. At this time, we can only accept US Citizens, GC Holders, or GC EADs.
- Candidates are required to be able to work on W2. We can NOT do C2C arrangements.
- Though this is a remote role, candidates are required to reside and work in the continental United States.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in API management and cloud engineering, with a proven track record in API lifecycle management and expertise in AWS API tools.
- Candidates must demonstrate versatility and effectiveness in both existing APIs and new cloud-native API development
- Extensive experience working with both REST and SOAP APIs, coupled with a solid understanding of API architecture. The ability to develop APIs within a DevOps environment is essential.
- Experience in logging, monitoring, and managing the full API lifecycle is crucial.
- Strong familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, and microservices architecture is essential to the role.
- Experience with MuleSoft is preferred, though not required.
- Strong knowledge of API security protocols, including OAuth, OpenID Connect, and token-based authentication.
- Familiarity with API monitoring tools and techniques to maintain performance and reliability.
- Skills in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash, GitHub Actions) to streamline API management tasks.
- Proven experience with Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines, contributing to the efficient deployment and integration of APIs.
