ABOUT THE JOB
The Tepa Companies are seeking a Staff Inspector to performs entry-level inspections of roadways, infrastructure, and construction projects to ensure compliance with established standards and specifications. With training and under supervision, the Staff Inspector assesses roadway conditions, verifies materials, documents findings, and assists with basic inspection tasks. This role travels for extended periods of time with periodic trips home, to be agreed upon per project.
Job Functions:
- Collects Geographic Information System (GIS) and Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating (PASER) data accurately on all roads within project schedules
- Runs the Smart Collect Software on a Cellular enabled iPad
- Provides navigation to the start of each road for driver team member
- Reviews for safety hazards on the road
- With training, applies appropriate PASER methodology to evaluate roadway conditions and verify surface types
- With training, reviews any culverts along assessed roadways to determine drainage functions of roads
- Uses Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Ground Transportation Linear Features (GTLF), and Facilities Asset Management System (FAMS) data to identify starting points of the roads to be assessed
- Collects Global Positioning Systems (GPS) latitude and longitude to a minimum of five decimal places at the start and end points of project road segments
- Measures and confirms the depth of aggregate along roadway segments
- Takes photos of roadway section within project limits
- Maintains project vehicle and equipment
- Other related tasks as assigned
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- High School Diploma
- Ability to learn and apply a basic understanding of the following:
- GPS technology and data collection methods
- Inspection standards and rating methodologies, such as PASER
- Fundamental concepts of construction and roadway maintenance and materials, including asphalt, concrete, and aggregate
- Safety procedures for working in and around active roadways and construction sites
- Drainage systems and culvert functions
- Ability to process basic mathematical calculations
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for reporting findings
- Basic computer skills, including data entry and using spreadsheets
- Effective observational skills to identify potential issues or discrepancies in road conditions
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures
- Basic vehicle and equipment maintenance skills
- Attention to detail
