DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
We are seeking a full-time, on-site Accounting Specialist to join our team in Bakersfield, CA. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records, managing financial transactions, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles. The Accounting Specialist will handle financial statements, journal entries, data analysis, and the use of accounting software to support the company’s financial health.
As an integral part of the accounting team, this professional will work closely with managers across various departments, requiring strong communication and collaboration skills. They will also assist with month-end and year-end financial processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for:
- Ensuring all vendor invoices are accurately coded, vouchered, and paid on time.
- Collaborating with Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and Sales to ensure accurate customer invoicing, timely adjustments, and proper cash application.
- Supporting month-end and year-end financial close activities.
- Maintaining detailed and organized financial records.
- Communicating effectively with department managers to ensure seamless financial operations.

QUALIFICATIONS
TECHNICAL & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Relevant certification (e.g., CPA) is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online and Silo (preferred but not required).
- Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with financial statements, journal entries, and accounting software.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Familiarity with growing areas and western vegetable production is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain accrual records ensuring timely payment of invoices
- Interface with managers to ensure accurate coding and payment of vendor invoices
- Collaborate with sales, shipping, and cooler departments to ensure accurate customer invoicing and cash receipt application
- Accounts Payable: ensure expense coding accuracy, process weekly payment journals, and handle multiple payment types (check, ACH, wires)
- Monthly close tasks: reconcile bank statements, book general journals, and reconcile balance sheet accounts
- Accounts Receivable: apply cash receipts, daily invoicing, manage credit adjustments, and reconcile chargebacks and freight
- Prepare bank reconciliations, process payable invoices and payments, and reconcile credit card statements
- Participate in month-end closing and prepare journal entries
- Record revenues, manage account receivables and deposits
- Communicate with vendors and employees regarding contracts, account balances and payments
- Prepare GST/QST monthly entries and remittances
- Assist with special projects as needed
