Tesla is a world leader in the design and development of humanoid robotics. We are looking for a talented, highly creative designer to join our small, impactful design team to help develop the future physical design of our Optimus robots.
The ideal candidate has experience of working as either an industrial, vehicle or character designer and has a proven track record of creating innovative, conceptual product proposals, as well as experience of taking design proposals through an engineering development gateway process to production.
Any successful applicant is an excellent team player who is able to work to tight, often shifting deadlines and who can work closely and effectively with a broad range of engineers, modelers and other designers. They must be willing to work on all aspects of the design of humanoid robots, from ground-up, blue sky concepts down to the tiniest production detail.
Finally, the candidate should have a naturally curious, problem-solving mindset and be willing to resolve complex, technical issues as well as challenge industry norms and processes in the pursuit of creating better end products for both users and society as a whole.
What You’ll Do
- Generate both concept and production ideas for all aspects of the physical design of humanoid robots in both 2D and 3D.
- Compete with and work alongside fellow designers on multiple simultaneous design programs. This could be anything from a small, individual component to a full vision for future products.
- Work extremely closely with both 3D modelers and engineers to develop these proposals through production gateways leading to both low and high volume manufacturing.
- Proactively problem solve issues that arise during typical product development cycles and resolving challenges before they reach executive level.
- Work closely with physical model makers to prototype ideas into physical models.
- Be comfortable presenting both their ideas and that of the team to executive level within the company.
- Be willing to support on other Tesla design programs within the Design Studio when the need arises. This could be anything currently being worked on in the Design Studio.

Expected Compensation
102,600 - $205,200 / annual salary cash and stock awards benefits.
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
