What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Commissioning Lead position at Tesla?
Tesla Facilities Team is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Mechanical Commissioning Lead to join our dynamic team, contributing to the successful execution of sustaining as well as major capital construction projects across its manufacturing facility in Nevada. Reporting to Commissioning Manager, in this role, you will provide mechanical commissioning expertise on site. Your responsibilities will encompass leading commissioning planning and execution activities for utilities processes and procedures, as well as delivering expertise and support to various teams within the organization including design, construction/trades, facilities operations and maintenance teams.
What You'll Do
- As champion of health, safety, and environment, implement and follow up Tesla HSE practices during construction, commissioning and start up. Strong believer of Safety for Tesla people, assets and environment
- Take lead on project initiative planning activities including design reviews, technical risk assessment, delineation of systems on design drawings (systemization), understand Sequence of Operation (SOO), follow up on status of systems during construction and identification of any deficiencies and associated schedule risks against the project turnover dates
- Take lead on Commissioning of a variety of MEP related equipment including HVAC equipment, Water, gases, fluids and other process equipment delivering all utilities to support production. Demonstrated ability to deliver successful commissioning in demanding situations
- Identify and assess potential risks associated with equipment startup, system turn over, procurement, and vendor operations. Develop and implement mitigation plans to minimize disruptions and ensure project success
- Collaborate closely with the Tesla site Design and Construction teams, Tesla Facilities Engineers, and Tesla Maintenance and operations groups to provide strategic support, share insights, and contribute to streamlined project execution
- Leverage your extensive background in project management, equipment startup, construction, and mechanical utility systems to provide specialized expertise and guidance to the project teams. Identify opportunities for process optimization and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Take ownership of high-risk deliverable project packages and engage in close collaboration with critical vendors. Provide thorough oversight of vendor facilities, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with project requirements and quality standards
- Conduct on-site visits to manufacturing facilities to evaluate their operational capabilities, quality control measures, and adherence to project specifications. Initiate comprehensive audits to assess vendor performance and identify potential areas for improvements
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 6 years commissioning experience in oil and gas, mining or large capital projects involving HVAC equipment (supply/return/extract air systems), chilled water circuits, pumps, heat exchangers, water softening systems, N2 and other industrial fluids
- Superior organizational skills
- Confident and able to work on own initiative and with limited supervision
- Commitment to health, safety and environment
- Flexible and able to adapt to current and new company requirements
- Ability to interact and coordinate with other departments
- Proficient with Completion Management Systems (CxAlloy, Pims, WinPCS, Mancon, or equivalent) is a plus
