What are the responsibilities and job description for the Virtual Commissioning Engineer, Cell Manufacturing position at Tesla?
Virtual Commissioning Engineers are responsible for developing 3D / 2D simulation models of automated manufacturing processes and equipment. These models are used to validate PLC (programmable logic controller), HMI (human machine interface) programs, robot programs and Tesla Manufacturing Execution System (MES) that collect data into production databases.
In this on-site role, you will develop Tesla Virtual Commissioning technology to test capabilities, evaluate functionality, and identify improvements for PLC / IPC programs, HMI programs and the manufacturing process.
Virtual Commissioning engineer will work cross-functionally with Tesla's teams in Manufacturing Engineering, Controls Engineering, and Robotics Engineering to design, validate, and test PLC and robot programs to achieve a comprehensive simulation of the production process.
Responsibilities
- Learn usage of various manufacturing 2D and 3D CAD tools and formats
- Develop 2D or 3D simulation environments for manufacturing processes involving robots, conveyors, gantries, cranes, winders, B&R, etc.
- Integrate simulation model with software-in-loop, model-in-loop, or hardware-in-loop architectures
- Develop virtual commissioning libraries emulating equipment (Schneider, B&R, Beckhoff, Siemens, SEW, Balluff, SICK, Keyence, etc.) based on EPlan, equipment specifications and PLC communication protocols
- Debug structure text and ladder logic code on multiple PLC controller platforms (B&R Automation Studio, Beckhoff TwinCAT and Siemens TIA Portal)
- Validate PLC, HMI, robot software, and Tesla MES systems in a virtual commissioning environment
- Evaluate new virtual commissioning and digital twin technologies
- Develop tools in software programming languages to make the simulation development and review process efficient
- Review virtual commissioning data with equipment integrators or internal teams and confirm the conformance to Tesla standards and manufacturing process
- Write technical documentation detailing the virtual commissioning processes and enhance Tesla's Virtual Commissioning standards
