We are seeking an experienced System Administrator to support and maintain a large-scale server environment for WMATA. This role requires a professional with at least 10 years of experience in server maintenance and expertise in Azure operations and maintenance. The selected candidate must be local to DC, VA, or MD and available to travel as needed to three data center locations in the Washington, DC Metro Area.
What You’ll Do
- Operate, maintain, and perform preventive maintenance on multiple server environments across on-premise and cloud infrastructures.
- Support Windows Server (2008R2, 2016), SQL Server (2014/2019), Rocky Linux 8, and IIS, ColdFusion, Node.js applications.
- Manage a 15-server production environment spanning two geographically dispersed data centers, ensuring high availability and load balancing.
- Perform monthly server updates using IBM BigFix to protect against cybersecurity threats.
- Maintain and troubleshoot Active/Passive Azure servers, manually failing over to secondary locations as needed.
- Travel on an as-needed basis to three client server locations in Washington, DC, Hanover, MD and Alexandria, VA.
- 5-10 years of experience in server maintenance and administration.
- Expertise in Azure operations and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server (2008R2, 2016), SQL Server (2014/2019), IIS, ColdFusion, and Node.js.
- Experience working with highly available, load-balanced environments.
- Familiarity with IBM BigFix for security patching.
- Ability to travel locally to client sites as needed.
- Experience with Trapeze Trip Planning Engine (ATIS).
- Knowledge of VM-based environments and failover procedures.
