Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated member to join our team. The Community Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for developing plans and coordinating resources for monthly events, including book clubs, skate park events, and youth-focused activities. Our prevention-focused programs cultivate consent culture through education, engaging projects, and the creation of inclusive community spaces. The coordinator will also collaborate with the T’Sayain (Circle of Wisdom Keepers) to recruit and engage elders in events.
Duties
- Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for monthly events aligned with the organization’s goals.
- Research and identify suitable venues for events, considering accessibility and community preferences.
- Coordinate logistics such as permits, equipment rentals, and catering services.
- Collaborate with the community and youth council to develop engaging and relevant programs for book club meetings, skate park events, intergenerational learning, and youth activities.
- Create a diverse range of activities to cater to different age groups and interests within the community.
- Implement strategies to involve youth council members and youth apprentices in the planning and execution of events, promoting leadership and empowerment.
- Recruit and manage volunteers, contractors, and partner organizations for various tasks related to event planning and execution.
- Conduct training sessions for volunteers to ensure smooth event operations.
- Develop marketing materials to promote monthly events through various channels (social media, community bulletin boards, etc.).
- Develop and manage budgets, with the support of the Program Manager, for each event, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial sustainability.
- Seek sponsorships or partnerships to offset costs and enhance community support.
- Use community feedback to make improvements and adjustments for future events.
- Establish and maintain relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders for potential collaborations.
- Seek opportunities for partnerships that can enhance the impact and reach of events.
- Ensure events are inclusive and representative of the diverse community, considering cultural and demographic factors, with a special focus on highlighting the contributions of indigenous women and girls.
- Implement strategies to attract participants from different backgrounds and age groups.
- Work with the Program Manager to develop contingency plans for unforeseen circumstances and emergencies during events.
- Coordinate with relevant authorities and personnel to ensure the safety of participants.
- Attend community meetings and events to promote upcoming activities and gather input.
- Actively engage with community members to understand their preferences and needs.
- Implement innovative ideas and strategies to enhance the impact and success of monthly events.
Skills
- Strong written, verbal, and listening communication skills to effectively and respectfully work with a diversity of audiences and situations
- Utilizing computer equipment, software and other electronic devices to perform work effectively and efficiently is desirable
- Knowledge of Google Suite, Monday.com, and database management software is desirable
- Strong group management skills
- Multilingualism is preferred – Spanish, Indigenous/Tribal languages, English
- Comfortable discussing topics such as gender justice, sexual violence, sexual harassment, consent, sexual assault, menstrual health, etc.
