Job Summary
The Safety Coordinator promotes Tex-Mix Concrete's safety culture by striving to ensure "Everybody, Home Safe, Everyday". Spend a majority of time in the field observing and coaching employees on correcting unsafe conditions and behaviors. Reinforce positive behavior through recognition and/or rewards. Serve as a resource by answering questions about safety and sharing safe practices from near misses/incidents. Build relationships and partner with local management to development and implement safety initiatives designed to produce results.
Essential Job Duties/Functions
- Implement safety policies, procedures, and programs specifically in accordance with Tex-Mix standards.
- Cultivate a safety culture characterized by empowerment and individual responsibility.
- Promote a positive safety culture through the implementation of recognition programs, safety campaigns, and communication initiatives.
- Collaborate with management, supervisors, and employees to continuously improve safety performance and identify areas for enhancement.
- Conduct monthly plant safety audits for compliance with OSHA and Tex-Mix standards. Ensure audits are reported to appropriate departments for corrective action.
- Assist Area Managers with Samsara coaching as needed.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, inspections, and training activities.
- Assist with safety training of current and new employees.
- Assist with new hire orientation.
- Stay updated on industry regulations, best practices, and emerging trends, incorporating relevant changes into safety programs and procedures.
- Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks in the workplace.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries, reporting, and documentation for your area.
- Review daily and weekly over-hour incidents and report as needed.
- Ensure driver trainee paperwork is complete and distributed appropriately.
- Work with external safety organizations, government agencies, and auditors during inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Safety Director/Safety Manager.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience
- HS diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum age of 21 years old required.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in concrete production or related field.
- Current, valid state driver's license required.
- Current, valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
- Satisfactory driving and criminal record.
- Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively train, educate, and engage employees at all levels.
- Proficient in using safety management systems, incident reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Professional certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
- A proactive and self-motivated mindset with a keen attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of concrete batch plant and ready mix trucks.
- Must be able to speak, understand, read and write English.
- Frequent/occasional use of fingers, wrists and hands to enter data via computer keyboard.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional/frequent climbing of steps and ladders.
- Occasional/frequent stooping, squatting, bending, kneeling and twisting.
- Occasional pushing and pulling.
- Must be able differentiate colors.
- Must be able to hear noises.
Environmental Conditions (Personal protective equipment is provided where required or requested)
- Majority of work is performed outdoors.
- Occasional exposure to elements of weather to include extremes in heat, cold, dust and moisture for limited periods.
- Occasionally/frequently exposed to rough, muddy and icy walking surface conditions.
- Intermittent exposure to high noise levels and vibration.
- Occasional/frequent exposure to moving parts/pieces of equipment.
- Frequent exposure to cement, concrete, admixtures, dust, diesel fuel, and other substances that may cause burns, be toxic or explosive if handled incorrectly.
- Frequently exposed to water and wet conditions.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
• Must possess a valid Texas issued commercial driver's license (Class C)
• Be at least 21 years of age
• MVR - No DUI's or DWI's in the last 5 years, no more than 2 moving violations in the previous 3 years
