GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of routine and complex clerical, technical and administrative work within the City, answering concerns and calls, aiding in animal cruelty investigations and code violations, keeping official records, providing administrative support to the animal and code department as needed, and serving as a back-up to the permit clerk for Inspections when needed.

Works under the supervision of the Code Enforcement and Animal Control Manager and other supervisors as needed.

The City of Texarkana, Texas provides three weeks of paid vacation and three weeks of paid sick leave per year as well as 13 paid holidays per year.
Retirement benefits are through the Texas Municipal Retirement System with the City contributing at a rate of 2 to 1 and the employee contributing 7% each paycheck to TMRS. Employees are vested after five years and may retire after either twenty years of service at any age or at age 60 as long as they are vested.
Retirement benefits for the Fire Department are paid through the Firemen's Relief and Pension Fund and employees are eligible to retire after twenty years of employment.
A voluntary 457 deferred compensation program through MissionSquare is also offered to all City employees.
The City of Texarkana, Texas provides health, dental, and vision insurance to its employees at a minimal cost. Life insurance equal to one times your annual salary is offered at no cost to the employee with supplemental life and dependent life insurance also available but is paid by the employee. Insurance becomes effective the first of the month following thirty days of employment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs routine clerical, technical and administrative work;
- receives the public and provides customer assistance;
- answers phone calls
- maintains all records for animal control and code enforcement;
- Assists in animal cruelty and code investigations;
- Assists in document preparation for municipal and civil court;
- Assists with billing and billing updates for health permits;
- Responds to inquiries from employees, citizens, contractors and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate persons.
- Acts as a back-up to the permit clerk when needed;
- Assists the public with permits and inspections and MyGov;
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
- Two (2) years clerical, secretarial, or administrative support related experience; or
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to prepare documents with a high degree of accuracy
- Skilled in record keeping and document management
- Knowledge in managing database software such as MyGov
- Ability to handle customers in a calm manner
- Skilled in effective time management
