Position Information
We are seeking a Research Assistant in the
AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Overton
responsible for performing skilled, administrative, and managerial support in research. Plans and directs certain phases in a research project.
Responsibilities:
- General cattle duties in all facets of cow/calf operation to include calving, treatment of sick cattle, feeding, hauling, weighing, which requires operating an Agency vehicle to perform duties.
- Assists in the design, planning, and coordinating of experiments in support of various research projects.
- Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data.
- Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.
- Evaluates and summarizes results.
- Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies; maintains financial accounts related to research projects.
- Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.
- Installs, operates, maintains, and/or repairs research equipment.
- Assists with purchasing, reports, invoices, and cataloging records.
- Must be able to drive tractor and operate equipment.
- Physical labor required. Must be able to lift or move heavy loads.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment. Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.
- Experience in haying operations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with reproductive technologies (estrous synchronization, AI, ultrasonography and animal health is preferred)
Other Requirements:
- Physical labor required.
- Must be able to lift or move heavy loads.
- Must be able to drive tractor and operate equipment.
