The Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute, a Department of Energy University Facility, is jointly supported by DOE and the State of Texas and is a major technical and educational resource for the state and the nation. At the Institute, we focus on conducting basic research, educating students in accelerator-based science and technology, and providing technical capabilities for a wide variety of applications in space science, materials science, analytical procedures and nuclear medicine. What We Want
The research instrumentation specialist will be responsible for designing and building equipment used to operate the K500 and K150 cyclotrons. In addition, this position will also be responsibile for all electronic and mechanical support equipment. They will perform maintenance and repairs as needed. What You Need to Know
Salary Range : Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.
Work Schedule : This position will need the selected candidate to operate on call as needed
Required Education and Experience :
Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience
Five years of experience in operating and maintaining scientific instrumentation
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Ability to solder and use all test equipment needed to do job
Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and various electronic test equipment
Physical Requirements :
Walk, sit stand, lift or move moderately heavy weight
Preferred Education and Experience :
Technical degree in Electronics
Five years or more in design and maintenance of RF systems, low voltage high current, and high voltage power supplies used in the operation of Cyclotron related equipment
Ability to soft solder, silver solder, sheet metal work Hi power and low power rf systems similar to that used at the cyclotron
Responsibilities :
Equipment Maintenance : Performs routine and emergency maintenance on all cyclotron equipment. Advises faculty and staff regarding operation and maintenance of scientific instrumentation. Provides routine operational testing. Maintains inventory of parts and supplies.
Equipment Construction : Works on design and construction of cyclotron and lab equipment. Maintains schedule of submitted jobs and ensures timely completion of projects. Assists in training of departmental personnel in the use of all instrumentation and software.
Materials : Orders materials needed for special projects and repair parts, works on other projects.
Schematics : Updates electronic schematics and performs other duties as assigned.
