SUMMARY:
The School of Music at East Texas A&M is seeking to hire a full-time Assistant Director of Bands. This is a nine-month appointment that will serve in a staff member position. The School of Music at East Texas A&M serves approximately 250 music majors in the instrumental, vocal, and keyboard divisions. The University is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music to offer baccalaureate and master's degrees in music education and performance, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music. The School of Music offers graduate assistantships and substantial undergraduate scholarships for vocal, instrumental, and keyboard students. The School of Music resides in a $30 million music building completed in 2010 containing state-of-the-art recital and concert halls, studios, rehearsal halls, and teaching areas.
The band program includes three concert bands, two jazz ensembles, and Marching and Basketball Bands. The Marching Band performs at all home games as well as exhibitions at marching contests such as the Texas State UIL Marching Band Contest and Bands of America Regionals and Grand Nationals Marching Festival. The Wind Ensemble has performed at both regional and national College Band Directors National Association Conferences as well as the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention, most recently in 2018. The Wind Ensemble is also actively involved in commissioning and premiering new works from the nation’s leading composers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Associate Director of Bands with the Pride Marching Band
- Conduct the Concert Band
- Teach Undergraduate Conducting
- Teach Additional Courses based upon the candidate’s area of expertise
- Oversee the 30-member auditioned Basketball Pep Band
- Assist with the Summer Camp Program
- Assist the Director of Bands with administration and coordination of auditions and events of the overall band program
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Music or related field
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills: 1 year of related work experience as an Assistant Director of Bands
- Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s Degree in Conducting or Music Education
- 5 years of related work experience as a Director of Bands or Assistant Director of Bands
- Public School experience
- Experience with Social Media
