PURPOSE
The Assistant Director for Upward Bound Central Program (UBCP) and Upward Bound North Program (UBNP), under general direction, assists with the operation and supervision of the Educational Services for Upward Bound (UB) programs. This position is responsible for providing support services to Upward Bound (UB) low-income and first-generation students during the academic year and Summer Academy. Responsible for student service delivery, planning, and supervising field trips, parent workshops, mentoring, and other activities with general guidance and supervision, and documentation of services and maintaining public relations are requirements of this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Advising: 70%
  • Develop and implement student curriculum including STEM curriculum.
  • Facilitates the coordination of activities and program design, ensuring that eligible students are able to fully utilize Upward Bound program services. Coordinate and Chaperone Academic Saturday’s, Community Service events and Educational trips. Oversees all day-to-day activities while staying in compliance with TAMUCC and the U.S. Department of Education (DOE).
  • Travel to local target high schools.
  • Increase Student Participation.
  • Initiate home visits as needed.
  • Provides direct academic support services to Upward Bound participants.
  • Provides oversight for student enrollment process by encouraging timely admissions process, and processing of all related admissions paperwork.
  • Track student contacts to monitor services required and providing follow-up throughout program participation.
Administrative: 25%
  • Coordinates the scheduling for in-school meetings with staff and students that focus on personal development, career exploration, academic skill building and college preparation.
  • Develops communications plans for recruiting efforts with the Director.
  • Manage, supervise, and evaluate Upward Bound Academic Success Coaches.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of program and community calendar events, both on and off campus.
  • Prepares reports and develop program goals.
  • Provides administrative oversight of Upward Bound programming including organizing and staffing outreach events and promoting on-line educational resources.
  • Provides administrative guidance and direction regarding program matters in the absence of the Director.
  • Responsible for keeping up with the office supply inventory. Serve as liaison between Director and staff on interventions for students; serve and assume responsibilities of the Director in his/her absence.
Other: 5%
  • Collaborate with University staff and High school staff.
  • Attend yearly TRIO training.
  • Update social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, STEM or related field.
  • Six (6) years of related experience to include three (3) years of supervisory experience and three (3) years of data tracking and implementation.
  • Additional education may substitute for the minimum experience requirement:
    • Master’s degree and four (4) years of related experience to include one (1) years of supervisory experience and one (1) years of data tracking and implementation.
  • Excellent planning, administrative, organizational, and supervisory skills.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in Data Management Software/Practices
  • Proficiency in Marketing/Promotional strategies & software, i.e. Canva
  • Experience working with underserved high school students
  • Strong problem-solving prowess
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be able to multi-task.
  • Strong base of general knowledge and skills relevant to the program, such as academic advising; working with TRIO students; educational program design, implementation, and evaluation; understanding of postsecondary opportunities and admission policies/processes; and the like.
  • Strong public relations and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with career/financial aid/college transfer advising and/or previous TRIO advising.
  • Experience with student recruitment.
  • Intermediate Computer Skills: Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Bilingual capabilities.
  • Certified Teacher in STEM related fields.
SALARY: $4,605.70 Monthly ($55,268.40 Annual, Approximately)
