The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) at Texas A&M University invites applications for one (1) Instructional Assistant/Associate Professor (depending on qualifications) non-tenure-track, full-time position with a 9-month academic appointment beginning Fall 2025. PVFA and the Dance, Music, and Theatre Performance Section seek an individual who demonstrates expertise in dance science courses including any of the following:

  • Anatomy
  • biomechanics
  • health/wellness
  • injury prevention
  • and other kinesiology-based courses
  • and/or Pilates.


Candidates should be able to teach various courses/topics in dance science at the undergraduate/graduate degree programs. Candidates should be able to teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate degree program in Dance Science. Candidates should be able to teach courses such as:

  • Introduction to Dance Science
  • Special Populations in Dance
  • Teaching Functional Anatomy
  • Wellness for Performing Artists
  • Safe Practices for Teaching Dance
  • Research Methods in Dance
  • Conducting Dance Science Research
  • Screening and Assessment in Dance
  • Health Practices in Dance
  • Movement Analysis in Dance,
  • Pilates Mat, Pilates Apparatus


Beginning through Advanced levels.

Additionally, candidates are expected to develop and implement new curriculum pertaining to the PVFA School programs, particularly in the areas of dance science and/or Pilates as well as contribute to academic service including student mentorship.

The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a new College within the Texas A&M University System and has a dynamic mission with more than 100 faculty and over 30 staff members and a projected exponential growth in the next 5 years. The College was formed from three departments/programs spread across the university: the Department of Visualization, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Dance Science Program. The mission of PVFA places a heavy emphasis on faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work in both scholarly and creative research.

Texas A&M University leadership has charged the school with developing innovative research and creative works, public performances, and degree offerings at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels that build upon our strength in merging art and science, as well as the traditional fields of music, dance, art, and theater.

The Dance Program within the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts currently offers a B.S. Dance Science degree in addition to minors in dance performance and choreography. Currently the College is in the approval process and potentially could add a minor in Pilates for Fall 2025. The program is also in the approval process for an MFA in Dance with an anticipated start date of Summer 2025. Assistant Instructional Professors must have a Master-level degree by the appointment start date within any field that relates to the descriptions above. Successful applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of university teaching experience.

Associate Instructional Professors must have a Master-level degree in any field that relates to the descriptions above. Successful applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of university teaching experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with a terminal (Master of Fine Arts or PhD) degree who exhibit evidence of interests in dance science and/or certification in Pilates and involvement in student mentoring.
