Texas Building Supply, a leading provider of building materials in the Texas market, is seeking an experienced CDL Driver I to join our team.
Job Description
We are looking for a skilled driver to deliver materials to job sites, inspect and maintain their vehicle, report any shortages or issues to supervisors, and assist with loading and storing materials. As a CDL Driver I, you will typically operate a truck with a capacity of over three tons, but may also drive a less experienced CDL or tractor trailer.
Main Responsibilities:
- Operate safely and efficiently
- Maintain a positive work environment
- Prepare DOT required log of time on duty and driving
- Organize and secure loads
- Assist forklift operators when loading
- Check orders for accuracy
- Deliver and unload materials to customers' satisfaction
- Complete daily equipment pre-inspection
- Record all merchandise that is returned by truck
- Follow guidelines established by the Department of Transportation
- Provide excellent customer service
- Relay messages sent by customers while on the job
- Assist supervisor, other employees and other work areas as assigned
- Assist in maintaining good housekeeping in yard and warehouse
- Comply with all company policies and guidelines
- Operate truck-mounted forklift safely and efficiently
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A High School Diploma or GED
- CDL experience preferred
- Basis CDL experience with flat beds and/or tractor trailers required
- 1-3 years CDL experience required for interstate commerce
Skills and Abilities
You should possess:
- The ability to do basic math, read orders, write instructions, and complete forms
- The ability to effectively and professionally communicate with customers, other employees, and supervisors using verbal and written skills
- The ability to deal constructively with conflict and recognize potential problems
- Maintenance of current operator's license and meeting company driver qualification requirements
- Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques
- Proficiency with or ability to learn current technologies (e.g., Smartphone, GPS, and other necessary business applications)
