Work Schedule

This position is a member of our Air Monitoring Division.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Plan and conduct advanced audits of laboratories analyzing environmental samples to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
- Prepare and distribute audit reports; evaluate the effectiveness of corrective action plan proposed by entities audited; monitor timeliness of audit responses; and verify timeliness and effectiveness of corrective action implementation.
- Coordinate the training and monitoring of staff on analytical methods and the environmental laboratory accreditation process. Research professional publications, laboratory methods, and accreditation standards to provide technical support to the section manager and staff, agency staff, and the public on sampling, analysis, and data interpretation.
- Participate in the operation of the laboratory accreditation program; review applications submitted by laboratories for accreditation to ensure administrative and technical completeness and acceptability; and assist in the preparation of procedures, reports, and other documents involving laboratory assessments and accreditation.
- Maintain the Texas Accreditation Bodies (AB) Manager Database and ensures data accuracy for laboratory accreditation section's data systems.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience performing audits or assessments of environmental laboratories, writing resulting reports, and evaluating timeliness and effectiveness of associated corrective actions.
- Experience performing audits or assessments using ISO 17025 Standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
- Advanced degree in engineering, science, or environmental studies from an accredited university.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree in a natural or physical science which included 24 semester hours in chemistry from an accredited college or university, plus two years of full-time experience in a TCEQ chemistry laboratory or with activities directly related to the examples of work performed.
One year (24 semester hours) of graduate study in chemistry may be substituted for each year of the required experience.
One year of full-time experience in the field of Chemist activities may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.

Career Ladder Progression
One year of full-time experience as a Chemist III at the TCEQ.
