Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Water Quality Division.

This position is a member of our Water Quality Division.


HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Supervise the Pretreatment Team in the Wastewater Permitting Section of the Water Quality Division (WQD) of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
  • Oversee the pretreatment team and the development and implementation of various projects related to the pretreatment program, consistent with agency policies and procedures, and the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • Complete personnel management functions, which includes hiring and developing staff, coordinating, appraising, and directing staff performance in accordance with agency policies and procedures. Evaluate staff’s work products for consistency with regulations and agency’s policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with TCEQ management, agency staff, the regulated community, the general public, and elected officials regarding the pretreatment program; provide presentations; provide technical input and represent the Wastewater Permitting Section in various public and TCEQ forums.
  • Lead or provide expertise during rulemaking projects and develops programs in support of the pretreatment program. Evaluate the implications of new and proposed legislation as it impacts section operations. Provide expertise during contested case or legislative hearings; coach and mentor technical staff in the development of technical and expert testimony.
Qualifications


KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Awarded Degree (bachelor's or higher) with a major in engineering, physics, biology, or environmental science.
  • Experience supervising a team or program, which includes set goals, establishing schedules, tracking progress, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring timely project completion.
  • Experience managing personnel and performance management, which includes hiring, staff development, coordinating and performance appraisal, adhering to agency policies and procedures.
  • Experience communicating technical or regulatory information to diverse audiences.
  • Experience developing and implementing new programs and initiatives, guidelines, procedures, rules, and regulations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in the administration of a program relevant to assignment.

OR

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to assignment.
