About The Division
Join the Broadband Development Office team! The Broadband Development Office (BDO) partners with local governments, stakeholders and citizens to expand reliable, affordable, high-speed internet across the state to every Texan. The BDO offers tools and resources and awards grants, low-interest loans and other financial incentives.
General Description
Performs entry-level research and analysis in areas such as projects related to the Broadband Development Office (BDO), including access, use and adoption of high-speed internet. Assists the BDO staff with required and ongoing broadband-related projects through research, writing, data analysis, data testing, legislative monitoring and other assigned duties. Potential for off-site training depending on divisional needs. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Work Hours
Agency standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours are subject to change based upon business need or division determination.
Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. Applicant will be required to work in office up to 3 days/week, and the days may vary. The applicant may need to report to the office with little notice, as business necessitates. Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.

This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. Prior interns have primarily performed sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out various duties.This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and reach as needed to perform filing and other similar routine office duties. Some lifting and/or moving, up to 35 lbs. of office equipment and/or materials may be required on a limited basis. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn recall and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers.

- Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university, or a recent graduate within one year.
- Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university, or a recent graduate within one year with major coursework in public administration, government, public policy, statistics, economics, social science, finance, business, research methodology or related field.
- Professional or academic experience in research and planning, data analysis and/or policy development relating to general government programs.

In this role you will:
- Assists with research, writing, data entry/analysis, statistical analysis and updating division reports, websites and databases. Grant management and other related processes.
- Participates in short-term assignments with other Comptroller divisions such as Communications & Information Services, Revenue Estimating and Tax Policy.
- Ensures accuracy, consistency and effectiveness by reviewing, editing and proofing data and various reports and materials for internal and external use.
- Provides assistance and administration of state and local economic development programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
