About The Division

Join the Sate Energy Conservation Office team! SECO partners with Texas local governments, county governments, public K-12 schools, public institutions of higher education and state agencies, to reduce utility costs and maximize efficiency. SECO also adopts energy codes for single-family residential, commercial and state-funded buildings.

General Description

Performs entry-level work in areas such as administrative, state, and federal reporting.Assists staff with the implementation of programs and contracts and other assigned duties. Potential for off-site training depending on divisional needs. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Work Hours

Agency standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours are subject to change based upon business need or division determination.

Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. Applicant will be required to work in office up to 3 days/week, and the days may vary. The applicant may need to report to the office with little notice, as business necessitates. Travel reimbursements are

Qualifications

Education:

  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university, or a recent graduate within one year.
  • Must be in good academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA).

Preferred Education:

  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university, or a recent graduate within one year with major coursework in public administration, government, public policy, statistics, economics, social science, finance, business, research methodology or related field.

Experience:

  • Professional or academic experience in research, planning, data analysis, or policy development.

Preferred Experience:

  • One (1) year of professional experience in research, planning, data analysis, or policy development.
  • Professional experience in the energy sector.

Summary Of Physical Requirements

Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.

This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. Prior interns have primarily performed sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out various duties.This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and reach as needed to perform filing and other similar routine office duties. Some lifting and/or moving, up to 35 lbs. of office equipment and/or materials may be required on a limited basis. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn recall and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers.

In this role you will:

  • Assists in reviewing reimbursement requests for multiple contracts.
  • Assists in the compilation of previous contract performance metrics and develops concise and reusable outcome templates.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of internal grant management software training
  • Assists in preparing mandatory administrative, state required, and federal reporting.
  • Attends Contract Manager meetings with public and private agencies, local governments, and public schools.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
