About The Division
Join the Texas Comptroller’s Administrative Hearings Section! This section provides valuable and rewarding public service to the citizens and taxpayers of Texas. Our diverse workload involves a wide range of industries, tax types, and novel legal issues. Our section reviews disputed tax assessments and refund denials, and works with agency staff and taxpayers to amicably resolve most matters through negotiated settlements. For cases that do not settle, we represent the Comptroller at the State Office of Administrative Hearings, resulting in a published Comptroller’s Decision resolving the matter and serving as precedent for future cases.
General Description
Performscomplex(journey-level) legalresearchandanalysiswork.Thelegalinternmay performtaskstypicalof an attorney in the Administrative Hearings Section.Work involves draft position letters and notices of hearings in preparation of SOAH hearings, and draft or respond to motions during the contested case process. Performs legal research and draft memos recommending action by other agency divisions served by AHS.Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Work Hours
Agency standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours are subject to change based upon business need or division determination.
Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. Applicant will be required to work in office up to 3 days/week, and the days may vary. The applicant may need to report to the office with little notice, as business necessitates. Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.
