General Description

The Unclaimed Property Division is responsible for administering the state’s unclaimed property program and returning abandoned property to its rightful owners.

To accomplish this objective, division staff receives and processes property reports from holders; provides information and assistance to claimants; verifies and processes claims, evaluates data for system implementation and manages the contract audit and voluntary disclosure programs. Owner outreach efforts include posting available properties on two online searchable databases ( ClaimItTexas.gov and Missingmoney.com ) and owner notice mailings.

We are looking for team members that are detailed-oriented, analytical, and have excellent customer service skills. This position is located in the Holder Education and Reporting Section. We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and/or marketing (outreach) skills.

This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule if certain conditions are met; working arrangements may change at any time as business necessitates.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Two (2) years of experience preparing and delivering presentations
  • Two (2) years of recent experience responding to customer telephone and email inquiries.
  • Two (2) years of experience receiving and processing electronic reports or manipulating electronic data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Experience processing unclaimed property holder reports
  • Experience researching and analyzing account information.

Substitution:

One additional year responding to customer telephone and email inquiries or preparing and delivering presentations, or outreach/marketing experience may substitute for thirty semester hours of the educational requirement with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years).

In this role you will:

  • Reviews and analyzes unclaimed property reports and documentation submitted by holders for accuracy and completeness; reconciles reports and receipts; works with holder to resolve technical and report processing issues; provides guidance concerning legal requirements, department policies and procedures and holder responsibilities.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding holder reporting requirements and report processing. Provides information verbally and in writing to other division personnel, coworkers, management, and agency customers. Represents the section/division in meetings and planning sessions. Plans, develops, and provides on-the-job training as assigned.
  • Prepares administrative reports and studies and responds to requests for program information. Assists in creating and presenting webinars and presentations for industry groups and agency personnel. Keeps abreast of external trends and events affecting the program.
