GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
Performs complex commercial fleet registration and customer service activities in support of the Commercial Fleet Services Section of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles’ (TxDMV), Motor Carrier Division. Work involves disseminating information, handling confidential and sensitive correspondence and communication regarding compliance with state and federal motor carrier registration and safety laws, rules and regulations. Work requires contact with governmental agencies and extensive contact with the public. Employees at this level work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provides assistance to external and internal customers relating to commercial fleet and motor carrier registration procedures, laws, rules, and regulations; refers customers to appropriate source for complex issues; processes commercial fleet and motor carrier applications.
- Performs help-desk functions and technical assistance for internal customers, commercial fleet and motor carrier registrants relating to the commercial fleet online system and related accounts.
- Prepares commercial fleet and motor carrier documents and other materials for imaging and electronic filing in FileNet; and performs quality control checks of scanned documents to ensure that the document is scanned and filed in appropriate account and for document clarity.
- Processes, requests, receives, or distributes commercial fleet or motor carrier refunds.
- Research manuals, regulations and laws to ensure compliance with established procedures and resolve problems.
- Logs, files, and cross-references correspondence and verifies documents/records.
- Answers telephone calls, routes message and responds to telephone inquiries from internal and external customers.
- Provides assistance with business user testing for the fleet registration system and assists with developing training materials.
- Opens mail, evaluates contents, routes correspondence, or messages, makes copies, distributes documents and/or prepares responses.
- May serve as a liaison on a basic level with other work units within the section, department and other local, state and federal agencies.
- Performs general office duties such as compiling and entering data for charts, graphs, databases, verification of information, summaries and/or reports.
- May travel up to 10% of the time, by plane and/or car.
- May involve overnight travel, working extended hours, some evenings and/or weekends, as needed.
- Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
Experience
- Two years of experience in a high-volume customer service, administrative support, data entry, auditing, general office administration or motor carrier industry related environment.
- Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
(Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE
A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within ninety (90) days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
