The Texas General Land Office is seeking a Staff Services Officer within the Veterans Land Board.
The Staff Services Officer I II p osition directly supports the Texas State Veterans Cemeteries Director in administering the program across all five cemeteries.The Director requires significant assistance to provide the necessary administration support to keep the program operating in an effective and efficient manner.
The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources. This position is with our Veterans Land Board.

What Your Contributions To The GLO Will Be
Provides timely and complex executive-level administrative and technical support to the Director; provides administrative executive-level assistance in the coordination, delegation, and tracking of various administrative assignments and/or activities within the program. Provides essential cemetery operations staff support. May assist the Director in addressing confidential human resource issues.
Communicates financial related matters to GLO Financial Management as needed, including procurement requests in CAPPS; monitors logistical requirements and related activities In support of cemetery operations; responsible for tracking Procurement Card (ProCard) purchases, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Acts as the liaison for the Veterans Cemeteries Program, providing verbal, written, and hands-on assistance to agency internal and external customers/stakeholders. lnteracts daily with other agency offices to coordinate assignments. Directs the flow of assignments, requests and distributes critical information to appropriate staff. Prepares drafts responses to routine inquiries to be approved ty the Director. Oversees the preparation of reports, memos, letters and executive directives for Director.
May analyze operations and reviews reports, recommendations, and justifications. Coordinates and collaborates with program staff in program planning, development, implementation, analysis, and documentation of agency program(s).
May develop and prepare meeting agendas, and attend meetings as needed. Confirms appointments on the Director's calendar to ensure the Director's time is utilized efficiently.
Performs other duties as assigned related to the agency mission and job classification.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in human resources, public or business administration, or a related field. Three years experience in office management, business administration, human resource administration, or budget preparation work. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (moving around the worksite) is routinely required to carry out some duties. This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/ customer contact and communication. It requires the ability to move and position oneself as needed for filing and similar routine office duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Ability to read printed materials and computer screens. The individual must be able to move and transport records, documents, boxes, and all related information and materials, weighing up to 50 pounds when required.
Preferred Qualifications
Five years experience in office management, business administration, human resource administration, or budget preparation work. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Three years of experience in CAPPS procurement is preferred. Veteran status is preferred.
