Brief Job Description:
The Program Specialist VI performs advanced consultative and technical work, including initial development and revisions of LIDDA handbooks, forms, publications and websites, while adhering to HHSC’s executive writing and branding policies and procedures.
Work involves coordinating with various departments such as Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) Services and PASRR teams, legal, other HHSC staff, and external stakeholders.
In addition, the Program Specialist VI position manages the change request logs, and monitor process and publication status, and services as lead in revision workgroups, as necessary. The position may also serve as subject matter expert in technical writing and accessibility.
Work involves minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the mission and goals of the IDD Program Services Unit (PSU).
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
1. Assists in the development, revisions, and updates of handbook, forms, publications, websites, and other documents applicable to LIDDAs. Edits and proofreads communication materials. Uses desktop publishing and word- processing skills to create or assist in creating effective materials in file formats including but not limited to PDFs and MS Office documents. This will require coordinating, planning, monitoring, and scheduling development, revisions and updates based on available resources and priority. Requires coordination including but not limited to staff, subject matter experts, stakeholders, management, legal, contractors, and federal awarding entities. (40%)
2. Collaborates with IDD Services and PASRR’s Deputy Associate Commissioner’s office and HHSC’s Web Services team to ensure information is posted quickly and is accurate, relevant, and informative. Assures that all postings are accessible and follows HHS Accessibility guidelines, Executive Writing Guide and HHSC Brand Guide. (25%)
3. Prepares and oversees the organization and archiving of developed and revised content. Consults with programmatic areas to ensure consistent messaging and updating timelines. (25%)
4. Performs special assignments regarding initiatives affecting LIDDAs and other duties as assigned. (10%)

Initial Screening Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
Minimum two years of experience researching, writing, editing, preparing and producing content in a wide variety of formats.
Experience in initiating, planning, executing, and controlling projects/assignments.
Experience with developing or overseeing advanced (senior-level) deliverables, reports, or other technical writing work products.
