The Skill Acquisition Plan (SAP) writer works directly with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a team environment where staff clinicians collaborate to provide comprehensive care and services. RTT’s work in a variety of setting including activity centers, recreation programs, and vocational/day programming centers, based on the needs of the State Supported Living Center (SSLC). The Skill Acquisition Plan (SAP) writer oversees therapeutic programs administered by RTTs and other assigned staff. Performs rehabilitative planning and instructional work involving identifying individuals' habilitation or rehabilitation needs and providing the necessary instruction in teaching daily living skills, in order to assist clients in attaining their optimum levels of independent living. Supervises and/or leads others in carrying out SAP’s that are designed. Ensures that the skills for training staff are adequate to perform their duties successfully. Provides appropriate training for assigned individuals as identified by Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and monitors training programs and documentation. Ensures relevant information is communicated effectively to the interdisciplinary team. Provides effective management and staff training and ensures individual safety. Works under the limited supervision of a Behavioral Analyst, Behavioral Health Specialist, or other designated staff with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Provides appropriate training for assigned individuals by completing an initial assessment of individual's skills and updating assessments as needed within prescribed timeframes.
Develops individualized skill acquisition plans (SAPs), which provide individuals an opportunity to become more independent. Monitors and documents the implementation of the SAPs by the direct support professionals and other staff. Ensures the collection and completion of data related to SAPs in order to accurately assess individuals’ progress.
Provides all eligible individuals with qualitative programming. Provides person-centered and age-appropriate training materials for SAPs. Participates cooperatively in the planning process for providing adequate services to individuals.
Reviews monthly progress notes and makes comments as required on noted improvements, regressions, or items significant to individual training. Submits monthly progress notes to appropriate disciplines within prescribed timeframes.
Maintains up-to-date records of all training information to evaluate, edit and revise individual programming as needed.
Provides effective management and staff training. Assigns job duties for assigned staff members to ensure training on each Skill Acquisition Plan (SAP) is provided. Coaches, leads and/or supervises assigned staff.
Trains staff on individuals' programming and appropriate use of training materials. Observes assigned staff during training sessions to ensure staff has adequate skills and knowledge to perform their duties.
Ensures client training areas provide no risk to client health or wellbeing.
Participates in the interdisciplinary team process including providing information and response to interventions as well as the results of monitoring and staff training efforts as mentioned above.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

- Skill in the use of equipment, tools, and materials used in therapeutic activities.

Initial Screening Criteria
- High school diploma or equivalency preferred;
- At least two years of work experience with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or in performing therapeutic work.
- Completion of a therapist technician training program may be substituted for six months of experience; Completion of an associate degree may substitute for one year of experience.
- Some college course work in behavioral sciences, education, or related areas.
- Some experience in the development of treatment and support plans and/or skills acquisition plans for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Some experience in the provision of active treatment
