Job Purpose

The Educational Liaison works withchildren with hearing loss and their families by building and maintainingpositive relationships with educators and other professionals to ensurepositive educational outcomes. The Educational Liaison is also a member of thecochlear implant team at Texas Hearing Institute and collaborates with outsideprofessionals to provide updates to the team pre and post implant.

Major Responsibilities

Provideseducational support for current and former THI clients and MWS students andtheir families
Coordinatescare and services with other THI professionals
Coordinateand facilitate various client engagement activities for THI families

Work Activities

EducationalLiaison

Supportsfamilies in requesting a full and individual evaluation (FIE) with their localpublic school

Collaborateswith RDSPD staff to coordinate the FIE process for clinic patients and MelindaWebb School students

Collaborateswith THI Audiologists, SLPs, and social workers; facilitates communication withoutside professionals to ensure positive educational outcomes for THI clients.

Conductsassessments, observations, and evaluations in school settings, as needed

Educatesparents, educators, and professionals on hearing loss, speech and language development,and assistive technologies.

Supportsthe development of IEP goals, 504 plans, and other educational services.

Shareseducational data at THI Cochlear Implant Team meetings and coordinates with ECIproviders for CI evaluations.

Providesfamilies with referrals within Texas Hearing Institute and to outside communityresources, as needed

Collaborateswith deaf and hard of hearing district leaders across the greater Houston areato build relationships and facilitate collaboration.

Actas Client Engagement Coordinator, by developing, coordinating and facilitatingvarious client engagement activities such as : Buddies at Texas Hearing, MWScoffee chats, parent education and support groups, Family Resource Fair, ProjectLEAD and Project Talk, etc.

Attendand represent THI at community events and outreach activities, promotingawareness and building relationships with local stakeholders, includingschools, community organizations, and professional networks.

FamilyServices :

Attendsleadership meetings, provides updates, and manages the Family Services budget.

Providesinput for outreach materials and publications regarding Family Services

Education andExperience Requirements

Master'sLevel degree in Deaf Education, Communication Disorders, or related field

3years' teaching or clinical experience

Anunderstanding of child development, oral deaf education, speech-languagepathology, and audiology

Philosophicalagreement with and commitment to the mission of THI

Specific Skills

Organizational skills, time management, composure in stressfulsituations, flexibility, compassion, knowledge and use of adult learning stylesin communication with adults

BasicCompetencies

Excellent oral and written use of English language, comprehensiveunderstanding of child and language development and hearing technologies,Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and Teams, Internet, Medical Software
