JOB SUMMARY: The Risk and Safety Officer leads and directs corporate safety functions while collaborating across departments to enhance workplace safety and risk management. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing training programs, policies, and processes that are current, evidence-based, and compliant with regulatory standards.
As a subject matter expert, the Risk and Safety Officer designs and delivers written, instructor-led, online, and experiential-based safety training programs to ensure comprehensive orientation and ongoing skills development. The role also oversees accurate documentation of safety training, preventative programs, and incident reports, working closely with leadership and frontline staff to identify and address safety improvements.
This position ensures that all practices meet or exceed regulatory standards while aligning with TOSA’s Core Competencies to promote a safe and supportive work environment.
WORK SCHEDULE: The Risk and Safety Officer position is a full-time position. Normal office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The employee may occasionally have to work evenings or weekends, as needed and travel to all regions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
- Serves as a resource and internal consultant for safety-related concerns across the organization.
- Maintains confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information.
- Develops and implements programs to reduce the frequency and severity of actual and potential safety hazards.
- Leads and actively participates in the annual review and revision of TOSA’s Safety Program Plan.
- Ensures organizational compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Develops, updates, and enforces safety policies and procedures.
- Maintains accurate OSHA logs, records, and documentation.
- Provides regular safety reports and recommendations to leadership.
- Leads investigations of serious adverse events, injuries, accidents, and near-misses.
- Coordinates and documents post-incident follow-up actions, including drug testing, medical attention, corrective actions, and retraining.
- Conducts root cause analyses (RCAs), risk assessments, and trend analyses to support continuous improvement.
- Develops and implements data-driven accident prevention initiatives.
- Files workers’ compensation claims and documentation.
- Safeguards the organization from internal and external threats through proactive risk mitigation strategies.
- Designs and delivers safety training programs, including classroom, online, and experiential formats.
- Conducts required safety meetings, emergency drills, and simulations.
- Oversees the Hazard Communication program and ensures proper training and documentation.
- Maintains Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensures they are accessible and up to date.
- Oversee the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), including training, annual vulnerability assessments, and coordinated exercises.
- Responds to on-site emergencies and supports emergency operations.
- Monitors systems for safety compliance and leads investigations and corrective actions for deviations.
- Manages biohazardous waste and chemical disposal in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Works with insurance providers for coverage related to worker’s comp , property, machinery and equipment.
- Works with Facilities to ensure buildings, campuses, and equipment meet the highest safety standards.
- Partners with Procurement and Inventory Coordinators to ensure PPE is adequately stocked and maintained.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in healthcare, safety or risk management
- OPO experience preferred
- Health Risk and Safety Certifications preferred
- Familiarity with environmental, Health and Safety regulations and standards
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with QPulse and LMS preferred
- Functional skills related to educating, data, technical, analytical, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to function effectively with minimum supervision and in a team environment
- Physical requirements also include the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
