To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

General Description

Under the direction of the Park Store Manager, this position performs highly complex (senior-level) inventory and/or retail sales work and is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, and directing of the overall operations of the park's store which includes a stand-alone retail store and boathouse for boat rentals at Tyler State Park.

This position has full responsibility for the following duties (including guidance of others performing duties):

  • Maintains, stocks, and issues materials, equipment, supplies, merchandise and other inventory.
  • Maintains accounting records of purchases, assigns inventory numbers to items, and monitors inventory and stock control records following loss prevention and agency guidelines.
  • Loads and unloads stock and merchandise.
  • Records sales and collects cash, receipts, and/or coupons according to established guidelines and fiscal control procedures for retail environments.
  • Disposes of surplus property or spoiled products and arranges/rotates merchandise.
  • Prepares purchase requests or orders and maintains files and supporting documentation.
  • Verifies the receipt of inventory or retail merchandise shipments.

This position assists with the following duties (including guidance of others performing duties):

  • Prepares estimates of supply and merchandise needs and prepares requests for replenishing supplies and merchandise.
  • Fills orders by packaging, mailing, or delivering items.
  • Determines the necessary mark-up of merchandise and ensures merchandise is correctly priced and displayed.
  • Negotiates with vendors to secure competitive pricing for merchandise and other stock.
  • Develops inventory control program guidelines and policies, reconciles inventory records with asset accounting records, and resolve inventory-reporting discrepancies.
  • Conducts inventory of stock or merchandise and reviews inventory control records and reports.
  • Prices and identifies merchandise according to agency policies and procedures, stocks shelves and store merchandise as required, and assists customers in finding products and making selections.

Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Department rules, regulations and procedures.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience

Three years of experience in retail sales operations.

Experience as a team leader or supervisor.

NOTE : Experience may have occurred concurrently.

Licensure

Applicant must possess a valid state driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience :

Three years experience in retail sales and/or food service operations;

One year progressively responsible and advanced office procedures in areas such as preparation of correspondence, advanced accounting practices;

Experience in monetary transactions and in preparing sales reports and bank deposits, filing, and budget management;

Experience with personal computers with software such as word processing, point-of-sale systems, and spreadsheet programs;

Experience with customer service and public relations.

Language

Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, such as word processing systems, filing and records management systems, forms, design principles, and other office procedures and terminology;

Knowledge in public relations, customer service, and good business practices;

Knowledge of retail markets, merchandise production, copyright and trademark restrictions, product lines, and gift show opportunities;

Knowledge of a point-of-sale system including ordering, receiving, inventory control, and merchandise display;

Knowledge of warehousing methods and procedures;

Knowledge of inventory and stock control recordkeeping;

Knowledge of retail sales practices and procedures;

Knowledge of customer service;

Knowledge of standard business practices;

Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

Skill in a point-of-sale system;

Skill in accounting principles such as: budget monitoring, expenditure tracking, invoice reconciliation, and revenue collection;

Skill in providing professional and courteous customer service to the public;

Ability to communicate effectively with the public;

Ability to interpret, analyze, and explain organization policies and procedures;

Ability to efficiently train, manage, and supervise staff;

Ability to apply organizational skills, office management practices and procedures and maintain recordkeeping system, prepare reports with established timelines, and perform revenue collection;

Ability to deal with high stress or emergency situations, as needed;

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;

Ability to work as a member of a team;

Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;

Ability to transfer stock from one location to another;

Ability to review warehouse and store operations for compliance;

Ability to follow prescribed store and inventory control standards;

Ability to communicate effectively;

Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

Working Conditions

Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use;

Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays;

Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

May be required to operate a State vehicle;

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
