Yes Hours of Work TBA Position Details Position Information Posting Number TSU202286 Official TSU Title Dispatcher Grant Title Job Description Summary / TWC Summary The Telecommunications Specialist works within the parameters established by law, administrative regulation and written directives to perform police communications activities. The Telecommunications Specialist is responsible for receiving calls, dispatching officers as needed, and monitoring the physical safety elements of the campus and nearby community. Essential Duties Summary Collect data and information while taking the appropriate course of action based on well-defined procedures and practices. Operate telephone-switching system. Receive emergency and non-emergency calls via radio and telephone while taking the appropriate action(s). Interact with callers (general public and other law enforcement agencies) and utilizes protocols to determine appropriate action to be taken. Manages tow related issues such as paperwork, wreckers, and car releases. Maintain specific data logs and journals as required by state mandates and procedures, as well as daily communication logs. Monitor Campus’ fire and intrusion alarms conditions, and dispatch the appropriate unit (police and/or fire) when required. Also monitor camera system. Operates police communications equipment such as Communications console, police portable radios, CAD, State and County computer systems, audio recorders, fax-machines, copiers and other equipment located in the telecommunications area. Must be able to perform multiple tasks at once and perform other job-related duties as assigned. % FTE 100% Hiring Range Commensurate with experience. Education High school diploma or general equivalency education. Required Licensing/Certification Must successfully complete Texas DPS Basic Telecommunications Course, TLETS/NLETS, and TCIC/NCIC Basic Procedures Courses for licensing and certification. All courses must be successfully completed within two (2) years of employment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities N/A Work Experience One (1) year of related experience, to include clerical and personal computer experience, is preferred. Requires good communication and organizational skills. Must be able to speak in a clear and understandable voice with complete concise information in stressful conditions. Must be able to work independently. Working/Environmental Conditions Work is performed within routine office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions. Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location much of the time. Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects of lightweight may be required.
