- Experience with utility mapping and locating buried cables
- Experience working with outside plant cabling, such as in manholes or aerial cables
- Experience installing or splicing fiber optic cables
- Degree or Certifications related to GIS or networking
Job Description
We are hiring a Geographic Information Specialist II to support and maintain the GIS database for our multi-campus voice and data network infrastructure. This position is responsible for mapping and documenting the university’s extensive fiber optic and copper cabling network across approximately 150 buildings. You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of GIS data, supporting network planning and upgrades, and assisting in documenting security cameras, emergency call stations, and other critical technology infrastructure.

Our work involves maintaining a highly reliable and available network to support the university community. Each team member takes on multiple responsibilities, contributing to both hands-on fieldwork and technical data management.
About You
We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated individual with a strong interest in geographic information systems and telecommunications infrastructure. You should have experience with GIS software, data analysis, and mapping, as well as a solid understanding of fiber optic and copper network cabling. Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and excellent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders are essential for success in this role.
Job Duties
- Maintain and Update GIS Database for Campus Telecommunications Infrastructure
- Conduct Field Surveys to Verify and Inventory Network Infrastructure
- Create and Modify GIS Maps and Visualizations for Planning and Upgrades
- Document and Maintain Records of Surveillance Cameras and Emergency Call Stations
- Troubleshoot and Resolve GIS Data and Mapping Discrepancies
- Produce Reports and Data Visualizations for Stakeholders
- Support GIS System Enhancements and Software Integration
- Other duties as assigned
