Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
- Bachelor’s degree in higher education administration, student development, counseling, social work, or STEM-related field.
- Experience in collegiate teaching or working with federal TRIO programs, academic support programs, or similar programs serving underrepresented college students.
- Experience providing academic, career, economic literacy advising, and assisting underrepresented college students with the research/scholarly activities, graduate school admissions, and financial aid process.
- Ability to coordinate programming activities and processes for working with students.
- Knowledge of graduate school admissions procedures and resources and national research presentation opportunities.
- Ability to track and follow Participants ‘attainment, retention, and successes.
- Knowledge of academic advising and college, financial aid, economic literacy activities, and related services for students.
- Experience advising and assisting Students with the graduate school admissions and financial aid process.
- Ability to maintain a caseload of Participants and provide them with documented services and activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in higher education administration, student development, counseling, social work, or STEM-related field
- 1 year planning educational and/or cultural trips.
- 1 year experience hiring, training, and supervising in a tutoring or similar support program.
- 2 years’ experience with academic support programs focused on student success.
- Bilingual (Spanish) speaking/writing.
Job Description
This is a grant funded position. Continuation of this position is contingent upon grant funding. The position is headquartered in-person on the San Marcos campus.
Reports to the Director of the McNair Scholars Program at Texas State University. The Grant Coordinator promotes educational achievement retention, good standing, and graduation for program participants.
The Grant Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all program events and services (including recruitment, academic guidance activities, workshops, and tutoring assistance, etc.) to ensure compliance with procedures and to meet program goals and objectives.
Evening and weekend work and travel may be required.
Job Duties
- Recruit, Identify, Select Participants for the McNair Scholars Program
- Provide counseling/advising (e.g. academic, career, financial, personal) to students who meet program eligibility requirements.
- Determine student academic needs and develop individualized student development plans.
- Schedule monthly student meetings.
- Document student contact/progress.
- Administer required evaluations.
- Plan and coordinate trips, events and programming of academic year and the summer residential program.
- Conduct workshops, presentations, trainings, and team meetings.
- Complete monthly reports.
- Hire/train/supervise tutors and coordinate tutoring activities and events.
- Seek professional development opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
