- Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, or related field.
- Experience with academic support programs, or Veteran services.
- Experience advising students on academics, financial aid, college, and career preparation.
- Experience in program development, event planning, or trip coordination.
- Effective writing and speaking skills.
- Experience with computer software (Microsoft suite) and database management platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference for Veteran or family member familiar with military culture and processes.
- Experience with academic advising, college, and career preparation, and the college exploration/application process.
- Bilingual (Spanish) speaking/writing.
Job Description
- This is a grant funded position. Continuation of this position is contingent upon grant funding.
- Reports to the Director of the Veterans Upward Bound Program at Texas State University. The Grant Specialist promotes educational achievement and the pursuit of post- secondary education enrollment for program participants.
- Responsible for assisting the Coordinator and Director with the day-to-day management of all Project activities and required services.
- Recruits, and serves a caseload of Participants. Provides academic, college, career, financial aid advising, and other individual technical assistance to Participants to promote college enrollment, and degree attainment.
- The Specialist is also responsible for recruitment and monitoring progress toward the accomplishment of program objectives.
- Position located in San Marcos with frequent travel to the target areas (Waco, Killeen, Round Rock, Austin, San Antonio)
- Evening and weekend work may be required.
Job Duties
- Assist with program recruitment. Service area includes San Antonio, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Austin, Round Rock, Kileen, Waco and surrounding areas.
- Complete intake assessments and Needs Assessments annually for new and continuing participants.
- Assist with monitoring participant program progress towards program objectives.
- Provide military benefits, college admission and financial aid information. Ensure participants take appropriate steps toward college enrollment.
- Assist with tutoring service delivery.
- Provide college admission and financial aid process information.
- Assist with the documentation of services provided, tracking, and reporting.
- Assist with pre and post evaluations for participants.
- Monitor outcome objectives, collect data, and assist in preparing annual performance reports/other reports as assigned.
- Develop and maintain professional outreach networks within target area communities serving as a liaison and point of contact as needed.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to promote personal and professional growth.
- Conduct other duties as assigned.
