Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
- Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical psychology from an APA accredited program
- Completion of an APA accredited internship
- Experience in providing crisis intervention services
- Experience in developing and providing prevention related programming for a college-aged population
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- In addition, candidate must be eligible for (or currently possess) licensure as a psychologist in the State of Texas. License must be obtained within 24 months of start date and must be maintained to remain eligible for employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum one year of clinical experience in a higher education counseling setting or with a similar adult population; may include doctoral internship, postdoctoral residency or practicum experiences.
- Interest and experience in one or more of the following areas is highly preferred: mood/anxiety management, groups, services to students possessing varied lived experiences, mind body principles, clinical training/supervision, crisis management, skills-based interventions, or substance use/abuse.
- Experience and skills in web design/use of web-based tools, and/or data management/research are additional areas of interest.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups; a commitment to actively engage in practice with populations experiencing a variety of life experiences.
- Experience within a multifaceted approach involving strongly linked clinical and training efforts.
- Possess interpersonal flexibility with a sense of humor.
- Exhibit an awareness of the importance of life balance.
- Ability/experience providing services within a high demand/fast paced setting.
- Commitment to the importance of the developmental aspect of university counseling services.
Job Description
The Texas State University Counseling Center strives to provide services and programs within a framework of professional competence, affirmation, and inclusive of a variety of lived experiences. The staff seeks professional colleagues interested in joining a team committed to enhancing campus services to better support all students. The Counseling Center works with a culturally and economically varied student community. Accredited by IACS, the Center is also proud to host a well-respected APA-accredited doctoral internship program as well as practicum training and a post-doctoral residency. The successful candidates will have a generalist orientation and evidence knowledge and experiences responsive to the needs of the student body. In addition, they will possess specific interests and experience in providing varied services which support the mission of an engaged university counseling center located within a Division of Student Success.
Job Duties
- Responsibilities include: time-effective personal counseling (individual, group, and limited relationship services), initial assessments & triage, crisis intervention, clinical training & supervision, outreach programming, campus training, consultation, assessment, and administrative duties, as assigned.
- Depending on Center needs, the selected candidate may have some responsibilities for providing embedded services with a campus department.
- Also, as required, services may be conducted in-person or via a secure virtual platform.
- In addition to the general duties noted above, interest and experience in one or more of the following areas is highly preferred: mood/anxiety management, groups, services to students possessing varied lived experiences, mind body principles, clinical training/supervision, crisis management, skills-based interventions, or substance use/abuse.

Occasional evenings and infrequent weekend coverage as needed for prevention programming and high priority campus situations.
