We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Surgery Counselor/Coordinator to join our team at our McKinney and Frisco locations. This role is crucial in ensuring a seamless surgical experience for our patients while supporting the efficiency of our surgical team.
Job Description: The Surgery Counselor/Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between patients and the surgical team, guiding patients through the pre-operative and post-operative process. This role requires strong communication, organizational, and patient education skills to ensure optimal surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive surgery counseling sessions, educating patients on surgical procedures, risks, benefits, and post-operative care.
- Coordinate all aspects of surgical scheduling, including pre-operative appointments, diagnostic testing, and follow-up visits.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patients, answering questions and addressing concerns throughout the surgical process.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and clinical staff to ensure a seamless patient experience.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records within the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulatory guidelines.
- Provide financial counseling to patients, discussing surgical costs, payment options, and financing programs as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an ophthalmology or healthcare setting, with a strong preference for candidates with prior experience in surgical coordination.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or higher certification (COT, COMT) is strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of ophthalmic surgical procedures, including cataract surgery, LASIK, and other refractive and oculoplastic procedures.
- Experience with insurance verification, pre-authorization processes, and patient financial counseling.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
