Position Summary:
The Director of Advancement Services coordinates and facilitates the University’s mission in advancement services, including gift processing, database management, research and prospect management, donor stewardship, and other assignments as deemed appropriate by the Vice President of University Advancement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs and maintains a comprehensive and accurate fundraising database. Facilitates access and provides training on the database to other staff members.
- Directs and manages procedures and documentation for gift processing and receipting. Maintains gift records in accordance with IRS and CASE standards.
- Oversees stewardship of university donors, including the tracking and reporting of endowments.
- Oversees development of a strong prospect pipeline to support fundraising needs of the University.
- Identify and monitor a list of top prospects for university leadership. Discuss and encourage prospect strategies to encourage movement thru the development process.
- Works as part of an integrated management team to establish overall goals and strategies for increasing private support to the University. Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.
- Build and manage regular and ad hoc reporting for university, division and leadership needs.
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of University Advancement.
Position Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, as well as software designed for gift management, alumni tracking, event management, reporting, project management, and Foundation support.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or 5 - 7 years of experience in a fundraising environment in higher education.
Knowledge: (position requirements at entry
- Excellent knowledge in business communications and financial management. Extensive knowledge of computer software experience including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Extensive use of an integrated administrative system and current software programs. Extensive knowledge on data retrieval, report building and management.
- Proficient experience and understanding of fundraising methods and ethics.
- Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including digital filing.
- Knowledge of multi-line phone system and standard office equipment.
Skills:
- Ability to adhere to university and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadline with minimum supervision.
- Ability to lead a small department of colleagues.

- Demonstrate administrative ability to plan and execute programs and activities to secure cooperation from individuals and organizations to coordinate the activities of such individuals and organizations.
- Ability to act independently and make decisions as required in the absence of the Vice President.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and talk or hear.
