TITLE

Coordinator, TRIO SSS Classic

JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Director to establish, implement, and manage the newly created program. The TRIO SSS Classic Coordinator will provide academic support, personalized tutoring, career development, and financial literacy to SSS students. The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Classic program is federally funded by the Department of Education and will serve 140 first-generation low-income students and/or students with disabilities. Work is performed under general supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Director, TRIO SSS Classic

Supervises: No supervisory duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

  • Works with TRIO SSS students to develop an Individual Academic Plan (IAP), assessing non-cognitive skills and outside stress factors that might negatively impact behaviors inside the academy.
  • Assists in recruiting, identifying, and selecting eligible students to participate in the program.
  • Schedules regular check-ins with TRIO SSS students.
  • Provides academic, financial, economic, career, and personal advising/coaching to Program participants.
  • Maintains accurate records to monitor participants’ academic progress.
  • Establishes and maintains consultations with Director of Student Support Services.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the TRIO SSS tutoring program including hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Remains current regarding best practices in mentoring, tutoring, advising, and retention.
  • Plans, prepares, and implements TRIO SSS retention program activities.
  • Maintains accurate records and participate in ongoing program evaluation.
  • Develops and presents educational events, opportunities and service projects.
  • Works closely with the Office of Admissions, Academic Advising, Financial Aid, and Career Connections.
  • Interprets and accurately communicates college policies and procedures for TRIO SSS students.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred in education, counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE

Three years of appropriate and relevant professional experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar related program for disadvantaged and at-risk college students.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential:

  • Knowledge and use of various career assessment tools, database applications, and software.
  • Knowledge of assessment and data collection, learning styles and learning assistance strategies.
  • Experience in a coaching approach to student assistance.
  • Experience providing accommodation services to students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of academic advising and college, career, financial aid, and economic literacy activities and related services for SSS Eligible Students.
  • Experience advising and assisting SSS Eligible Students with postsecondary course selection and graduate school admissions and financial aid process.
  • Ability to maintain a caseload of Participants and provide them with documented services and activities.
  • Knowledge of barriers to postsecondary education faced by low income and first-generation college students.
  • Prior knowledge as a member of TRIO programs preferred.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.
