The Texas Workforce Commission is hiring a Deputy Director of the Workforce Development Division.
This Director III position will be second-in-charge of a 700 employee division that supports the development and oversight of a statewide, market-driven system of employment and training services. The deputy director reports to the Director of the Workforce Development Division, based in the agency’s headquarters at 15th Street and Congress Avenue in Austin.

What You Will Do
While serving in this role, you will perform highly complex (senior level) managerial work. This position has oversight responsibility for critical systems in Workforce Development, providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning. The Deputy Division Director drives consistent processes and best practices to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of key initiatives, coordinating the implementation of new technologies and workforce-related projects across multiple departments and divisions.
You will partner with the Division Director to supervise a team working with local workforce development boards, educators, and other partners serving Texas employers, families, individuals, and communities. You will participate in meetings with executive staff and external stakeholders; represent the Division Director in meetings related to agency projects; and be a problem solver that helps remove roadblocks for our team. You will work under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement in decision making.
You Qualify With
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to program areas and of the principles and practices of public administration and management. You are dedicated to the knowledge and understanding of statute, administrative rules, and policies. You can effectively establish program goals and objectives that support the strategic plan, then monitor performance. You are adept at identifying problems, evaluating alternatives, and implementing effective solutions.

You Qualify With
- Six years of full-time experience in the oversight and direction of an agency program; or in strategic planning and policy development and implementation, three years of which must have been in an administrative management or supervisory capacity.
- Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
