About the Role
TFI Family Services is seeking a full-time Education Specialist to join our Permanency team. If you have a bachelor’s degree in the field of human services, related field, or educational field and you have experience in the education field, we want to hear from you!
A Day in the Life as an Education Specialist
As an Education Specialist at TFI Family Services, you will play a pivotal role in supporting children’s educational continuity while they are in foster care. This support will include ensuring timely enrollment into educational programs each time a child in foster care moves placements; provide education programs with the required information they need to serve these children and become our agency expert in navigating any educational issues the children may be experiencing. Working as part of a team, you’ll support the children and families our agency serves as well as foster parents, case teams and educational providers as they all work together to meet the needs of children while in foster care.
What We Are Looking For
We seek organized, self-motivated and detailed-oriented individuals who can multi-task and are eager to support children to be successful in their educational journey while in foster care. Prior foster care and/or educational system knowledge is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
· Coordinate with case managers to ensure educational services are provided to youth in the Permanency Program.
· Assist case managers with navigating educational systems, including special education services such as Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans.
· Serve as a resource for staff and families regarding educational systems.
· Assess the need for placement, safety, family strengths and needs, and placement resources for youth.
· Ensure timely completion of Best Interest Determinations (BID) in compliance with state and federal laws and policies.
· Complete all documentation of BIDs and serve as the liaison to school systems for BIDs.
· Coordinate, process, and track Educational Advocate referrals and assignments with the State Board of Education.
· Maintain close working relationships with public and private agencies involved in providing educational services.
· Ensure the accuracy, content, and completeness of youth/family case records.
· Utilize best practices standards to coordinate educational services and requirements with public and private agencies.
· Participate in case planning conferences as needed.
· Support the After Care Case Manager in ensuring follow-up support services are accomplished when permanency is achieved.
· Compile monthly statistical data and reports for appropriate agencies.
· Complete documentation and forward reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content.
· Coordinate with Agency Foster Care and Adoption Services, Behavioral Health staff, and external public and private agencies on the delivery of services to youth and families.
· Advocate, promote, and practice cultural sensitivity and responsiveness in all day-to-day interactions.
· Develop, promote, and practice teamwork in all activities.
· Drive personal or agency vehicle while transporting children or conducting agency business. Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet agency underwriting standards.
